Punxsutawney man killed in one-vehicle accident

A Punxsutawney man lost his life in a one-vehicle accident that occurred Friday night on Route 36 in Bell Township.

According to Punxsutawney-based Pennsylvania State Police, a 2003 Ford F-150 pickup truck driven by James O. Baun Jr., 62, Punxsutawney, was traveling north on Route 36 197 feet east of Bells Mills Cloe Road, Bell Township, at 11:06 p.m. on Friday, when he failed to negotiate a left hand turn and exited off the eastern side of the roadway.

Police said Baun's vehicle continued traveling north off of the roadway for approximately 200 feet before reentering the roadway and rolling over.

According to police, Baun's truck slid on its roof for approximately 100 feet before turning back over and coming to rest.

Police said Baun was taken to Punxsutawney Area Hospital by Jefferson County EMS, where he was pronounced dead as a result of his inuries.

Police were assisted at the scene by the Punxsutawney Fire Department and Rebuck's South Side Service.
