Punxsutawney-based Pennsylvania State Police said in a report issued Tuesday night that a Rossiter woman has been arrested and charged as a result of an accident that occurred at 4:39 p.m. on Monday in Big Run.

Police said that the accident occurred when a 2013 Ford Escape driven by 23-year-old Heather L. Cook of Rossiter was driving on State Route 119 and drifted over the double-yellow line, striking a 2013 Nissan Rogue driven by Marie Emberg, 81, of Punxsutawney, in a head-on collision. Both units received disabling damage as a result.

Police said that Cook and Marie Emberg sustained suspected minor injuries, but Edwin Emberg, 81, Punxsutawney, a passenger in the Nissan Rogue, sustained suspected serious head trauma and was airlifted to UPMC Altoona.

The report stated that, as a result of the accident, Cook was arrested for operating a vehicle without a license and causing suspected serious bodily injury to Emberg, as well as for possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police were assisted at the scene by the Big Run Fire Department, Jefferson County EMS, Trooper Powell and Cpl. Brothers.
