PSP: Juvenile succumbs to injuries sustained in McCalmont Twp. fire

MCCALMONT TOWNSHIP — On Thursday, Punxsutawney-based Pennsylvania State Police announced that a 16-year-old female from Punxsutawney succumbed to injuries sustained in a fire that occurred on July 17 on Buck Run Road in McCalmont Township.

Members of PSP-Punxsy responded to the location at 9:30 a.m. on July 17 for the report of a house fire. The victim was pouring gas into a motor that ran the washing machine, and gas spilled out onto the motor, causing a fire.

The victim suffered severe burns to her body and was flown to UPMC Mercy in Pittsburgh. On Wednesday afternoon, she succumbed to the injuries. The cause of death was determined to be septic shock due to multiple wound infections from the severe burns she sustained from the fire.
