Home opener in question as stadium renovations lag

At this week's school board meeting, Punxsutawney Area School District Superintendent Dr. Thomas Lesniewski informed board members that the stadium renovations are running behind, which could jeopardize the first home football game — which would make it a road contest.

Lesniewski said that the architects recommended issuing a one-week extension, but he recommended to the board that they not do so, as it would put the project too far behind and put the district in position to lose money that's written into the contract for the extended deadline.

The board also discussed the flagpole memorial plaque that will be a tribute to all who served — past, present and future. At the first home game — whenever that would be — the flagpole will be dedicated prior to the game.
