Wednesday was a stellar sports day for athletes in the Punxsutawney Area School District. First, the Punxsy boys' tennis team won a 3-2 match over St. Marys (on the Dutchmen's own courts) to advance to next Wednesday's District 9 team finals. Back home, the Chucks baseball team busted out the bats, while Brandon Matthews pitched a five-inning one-hitter, to propel the home team to a 12-2, five-inning win. And in DuBois, Lady Chucks pitcher Kylee Lingenfelter pitched a no-hitter and went 4-for-4 at the plate to help lead Punxsy to a 12-0, five-inning win. It was also a busy day for the junior high track teams at home, as the Lady Chucks swept a tri-meet with DuBois and ECC, while the Chucks beat ECC and fell to the Beavers.

Thursday's schedule of events includes to road contests, with softball at Clarion (4:30 p.m.) and baseball making the long trek to Williamsport (4:30 p.m.).
