A new, local non-profit organization called Lisa’s Ladybugs Patient Care Fund is starting in Punxsutawney with the aim of helping families that are going through cancer treatments for one of their family members.

The group hopes to provide assistance and aid to these families, especially in the areas of service-based needs such as cleaning, cooking or providing childcare.

Pictured here are some of the organizers (from left) Lori Ebel, Christina Hibbard, Sherri McMahan, Mary Kay Fedigan and Jaime Sherry.

Upcoming events for Lisa's Ladybugs include:
• Saturday & Sunday — The Rossiter Miners Cancer Aware-ness Tournament. All proceeds from the event will go toward Lisa's Ladybugs, and a full schedule of games and other activities is available on Page 14 of Thursday's edition of The Spirit.

• July 1-4: Bake Sale — A bake sale will be set up in the park downtown with hopes of raising funds for Lisa's Ladybugs. Stop by and visit!

• July 6: Luau Picnic — From 5 to 10 p.m., hamburgers and hot dogs will be cooked up, and entertainment will include M&M Magic with face painting for the kids and a DJ afterward. Cost is $10 for adults, and kids are free.

• Aug. 24: Golf Tournament — The 2013 Golf Outing will be held at Scottish Heights Golf Course in Brockport. For more details on this event, see the website (www.lisasladybugs.org).
