The Rev. J. Paul Kennedy, 90

The Rev. J. Paul Kennedy, 90, of York, Pa., died Friday, Nov. 8, 2013, at the York Lutheran Home in the Village at Sprenkle Drive.

He was the husband of the late Elsie J. (Bullers) Kennedy, whom he married on June 30, 1945.

Born Oct. 9, 1923, in North Point, Indiana County, he was a son of the late John C. and Ruth (Elkin) Kennedy.

He was a graduate of Punxsutawney High School and DuBois Business
School.

He then served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.

After his discharge from the Air Corps, he worked for Harbinson Walker Brickyard and then worked as a State Farm agent from 1959-1967.

He then graduated from Wittenberg College and its Hamma School of Divinity and became ordained in the Ministry of Word and Sacrament in LCA on Oct. 20, 1973.

He served Spring Church in Oklahoma Borough, then Lilly and Portage Parishes and, most recently, Friedensaal Lutheran Church in Seven Valleys.

He was also a member of Union Lutheran Church in York.

Pastor Kennedy is survived by a daughter, The Rev. Judith A. McKee and husband The Rev. Thomas McKee of York; a son, Howard P. Kennedy and wife Saralee of Stuart, Fla.; five grandchildren, Michael McKee and wife Kristin, Sarah Toney and husband Nick, Tarah Kennedy and husband Dave Marchese, Holly McArdle and husband Matt, and Miles Gehrman; five great-grandchildren, Kennedy, Micah, Kayden, Shaun and Lando; and a sister, Marion Crevar of Payson, Ariz.

He was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Damon; and a brother, William Kennedy.

A visitation will be held from noon to 2 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 21, 2013, at St. James Lutheran Church, 221 Bills Lane, Ringgold, Jefferson County.

The service will follow at 2 p.m. at the church, with burial to follow in St. James Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Workinger Semmel Funeral Homes & Cremation, Inc., York, is handling the arrangements.
