Punxsy woman, 43, dies in wreck

July 29, 2012

RINGGOLD TWP. — A 43-year-old Punxsutawney woman died following a crash that occurred at 5:26 a.m. along Route 536 near Reed Road, according to Punxsutawney-based Pennsylvania State Police.

Linda Marie Godo died as a result of blunt force trauma, according to Jefferson County Coroner Bernard P. Snyder.

Police said two juveniles also suffered minor injuries in the crash.

The crash occurred as Godo was traveling east on Route 536 and failed to negotiate a left-hand curve on the wet road, police reported.

Godo's vehicle left the road and traveled along the gravel-covered southern berm for about 70 feet, before she steered the vehicle back onto the road and then slid counterclockwise, according to police.

The vehicle ultimately struck a tree located about 10 feet off the road, police said.

Police reported that air bags did deploy for the front driver's seat; Godo was not wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Both juvenile passengers were transported to Punxsutawney Area Hospital for treatment.

The vehicle was towed from the scene by South Side Service.

Jefferson County EMS, the Ringgold Fire Dept. and the Clearfield County Coroner’s Office also assisted at the scene.
