July 14, 2013

BELL TOWNSHIP — A 12-year-old Punxsutawney male accidentally shot himself in the right shoulder while unknowingly playing with his father’s 22 long gun, according to Punxsutawney-based Pennsylvania State Police.

Police said the gun, which was located in the father’s bedroom, had a round in the chamber, and the boy accidentally bumped the trigger, causing the gun to go off and shoot a round into his shoulder.

The incident occurred on July 9 along Elbel Road in Bell Township.

Police said the boy was treated at Punxsutawney Area Hospital and released.
