PUNXSUTAWNEY — Firefighters from five area companies responded to a working structure fire that occurred at noontime on Wednesday at 323 Pine St., Punxsutawney. The companies were dispatched at 12:03 p.m. to the fire, which completely destroyed the home.

Elk Run Fire Chief Doug McAfoos, who was in command at the fire, said that when they pulled in, the house was fully involved, with flames coming out of the windows. He said there was no one inside when firefighters arrived on-scene, as the two people who were inside had evacuated, along with five of the six dogs that they owned. The third person who lived there was not at home when the fire broke out.

McAfoos said that the renters who lived in the house said there had been some electrical problems in the house, and the Pennsylvania State Police fire marshal was being called in to investigate.

More details are available in Thursday's print edition of The Spirit.
