BRADFORD — A long road trip always goes faster and is much more enjoyable after a resounding victory.
The Lady Chucks blistered the host Lady Owls, 20-1 for the 15-run four-inning mercy rule in Bradford on Tuesday.
Punxsy produced four scores to open the contest before each team pushed across a single second-inning tally for a 5-1 score.
The Lady Chucks exploded for nine runs in the third before adding a decisive six more to earn the going away 20-1 win.
Punxsy (8-2) posted 15 hits coming from nine different players on the roster.
"It was a nice balanced offensive attack tonight," commented Lady Chucks head coach Alan Pifer. "It was nice to see the girls put the bat on the ball after missing yesterday's game (which was postponed due to rain) and we look to keep it going against Clearfield (today)."
Seniors Sarah London and Savannah Hallman recorded almost half of the visiting squad's hits over the four innings. The two Lady Chucks combined to go 6 for 7 with eight RBI.
London finished 3 for 3, all singles, with five RBI. Hallman was 3 for 4 with two doubles and a single with a trio or runs driven in as well as touching home plate three times herself.
Chelsea Engeholm and Ashley Bacha added a pair of hits apiece. Engeholm doubled and singled with two RBI and two runs scored.
Bacha sliced two hits, drove in one run and scored one time.
Ivy Phillips laced a two-run triple, and Sydney Phillips had a run-producing double.
Stephanie Smith came around third to score three times to go with an RBI single. Jensen Constantino had her own two-run single in the fourth inning.
Ashley Walls had the final hit. Emily Horner scored three times and Monica Cameron twice as part of the 20-run outburst.
In the circle, London and Ivy Phillips hurled the pitches for Punxsy. Both pitchers went two innings, with Ivy having three strikeouts.
"London had her second start, and Ivy had her first varsity pitching action," explained Pifer. "We figured we needed some innings with the schedule (of four games in four days)."
In the junior varsity affair, Punxsy decimated Bradford in only three innings by a tally of 18-0.
The JV Lady Chucks (10-1) took control from the start with 11 scores in the top of the first frame. The visitors added a single score in the second before seeing six more runners touch home in the third at bat.
Punxsy's bats pounded out 18 hits in only three frames.
"The girls hit the ball really well today with everyone contributing," noted Lady Chucks JV coach Ken Covatch. "Kara (St. Clair) pitched a strong game for us."
St. Clair allowed just two hits and two walks to go with five strikeouts of Bradford batters for the mound win.
Nicole DiPietro lined a triple and two singles with three runs as the top JV hit producer.
Shaina Painter and Shaina DeFoor drove the ball for doubles for their hits.
Constantino, Amber Ward, Bali Primm and Taylor Medgsar all posted two singles.
Morgan McFarland, Anna Horner, Alyssa Reitz and Beth Barnett rounded out the Punxsy hitters with singles.
Of the four consecutive days of contests this week, Punxsy will have its only home contest today against Clearfield starting at 4:15 p.m.View more articles in:
