PUNXSUTAWNEY — Even with a short but much-deserved break from the
harsh winter weather coming early this week, Punxsy Borough Council planned to begin the annual task of evaluating the condition of the borough's roads and alleys for paving.
Ben White, Punxsutawney Borough manager, said that he and Dave Bofinger, Public Works working foreman, will be making the rounds during the next few weeks in order to assess which streets will require the most repair.
"Council will have to perform a cost analysis to determine how much paving they would like to do this year, once the winter snow removal season is complete," he said.
White said at last week’s Public Works Committee meeting that the borough has spent a total of $34,000 for salt and anti-skid and $7,200 for overtime for borough crews to plow the snow.
He said that the money to pay for snow removal comes from the same fund that street paving does.
