BROOKVILLE — When the final precinct results were counted Tuesday night, the results showed that Punxsy’s most interesting race — the one that would decide who would be Punxsy’s next mayor — went to Richard Alexander.

A total of 7,948 votes were cast across the county in the unofficial results released by the county.

Alexander earned 55.08 percent of the votes in the mayoral race, with a total of 531. Dennis C. Rebuck ran on the Democratic ticket, earning 156 votes for 16.18 percent of the total.

William L. Frantz, Jr. ran as an Independent and earned 45 votes, while write-ins accounted for 232 of the votes — a high total — giving them almost a quarter of the total.

In another of the contested elections, incumbent District Attorney Jeff Burkett beat out the Democratic candidate, Joseph D. Ryan, by earning 5,050 votes (64.44%).

Ryan’s 2,781 votes were good for 35.49% of the total.
