Roller Derby Report

April 23, 2015

On Saturday, April 18, the Susquehanna Valley Derby Vixens (SVDV) traveled to Clearfield to take on the Backwoods Bruisers of the Northern Allegheny Roller Derby (NARD). This game was the third meeting between the teams since NARD was founded in 2012. The Bruisers were able to achieve a hard-fought and decisive victory over SVDV. The final score was 225-150.

Baseball still perfect; track beats ECC

April 22, 2015

On Tuesday, the Chucks and Lady Chucks were the road warriors, with the junior high track team being the only team to play host.

In baseball action, Punxsy defeated Curwensville in a game originally scheduled for Monday, while the Chucks and Lady Chucks track teams split with Elk County — the boys won.

Today's schedule includes a home baseball game against Altoona and an away softball game at Altoona, plus tennis travels to Brockway in a re-scheduled meet.

NBA Playoffs Recaps & Predictions

April 20, 2015

Eastern Conference

Game 1
Chicago Bulls 103
Milwaukee Bucks 91

The Bucks came out in the first half and played tough. The much stronger Bulls restored order in the second half behind the strong play of Jimmy Butler and Derrick Rose. This was the first playoff game Rose has played in since 2011 when he tore his ACL. He scored 23 points on an efficient 9-16 shooting from the field.

Look for the Bulls to control this series. They are simply way too talented for this Bucks team to match up with them. The Bucks might steal a game, but don’t look for this series to go much longer.

Rivalry renewed

April 14, 2015

It was another installment of the Route 36 Rivalry on Monday — one that went quite well for Punxsy. Punxsy's baseball team used five different pitchers (including John Matthews, pictured here) to breeze past the Raiders on a windy day — 11-0 in six innings. Meanwhile, just up the road, Punxsy's softball team was handing the Lady Raiders a 9-0 defeat. For full coverage from the games, pick up Tuesday's edition of The Spirit.
