Former Punxsy Athlete Dave Foster places 15th at worldwide Reebok CrossFit Games

Dave Foster, former Punxsutawney Athlete, and his team Backcountry CrossFit have just competed in the worldwide Reebok CrossFit Games. The Reebok CrossFit Games is the highest level of competition in the sport of CrossFit, and features the best teams from around the world. After three days of grueling, fitness-related events such as tire-flipping, dead-lifting, a team ocean swim, and marathon runs Foster and his team finished 15th overall. All-Stars off & running ... to States!

Punxsy’s Minor League Softball All-Stars were playing in their second winner-take-all championship game on Friday night — this time at the Sectional Tournament hosted in Punxsutawney.

And once again, Punxsy ran away from the decisive game a champion, defeating Union City 3-1.

Pictured here are the members of the team carrying their Section 1 championship banner on the traditional victory lap.

With the win, the girls have advanced to the state tournament, which will begin on Thursday in Greensburg.

Minor League Softball All-Stars earn trip to Sectionals, chance to shave coaches’ heads

After fighting their way back through the bracket to the championships, Punxsy’s Minor League Softball All-Stars earned a 5-1 victory on Friday to win the District 10 championship.

In addition to earning the title of District 10 champs, though, the girls also earned the chance to shave their coaches’ heads after the game (see THAT photo in Saturday's print edition of The Spirit).

Punxsy will now advance to Sectionals, which will be played right here in Punxsutawney and will begin on Monday.

A banner year for Punxsy’s 11/12 All-Stars

On Tuesday, the Punxsy Major League Baseball All-Stars traveled to Brookville for the second consecutive night, where they battled both Mother Nature and the Brookville squad for the District 10 championship. Punxsy came out on top in the game, which got off to a late start, defeating Brookville 14-10.

The banner was the first Punxsy has earned in the 2014 All-Star campaign.
