Reds put catcher Mesoraco on DL, starter Cueto examined

CINCINNATI (AP) — The Reds put catcher Devin Mesoraco on the 15-day disabled list Monday with a sore left hip that limited him to pinch hitting and filling in as an interleague DH for the past six weeks.

They'd been hoping that Mesoraco — an All-Star last season — could get better without going on the DL. The hip bothered him when he went through catching drills over the weekend, prompting the move.

4x800 team, Ingros participate at PIAAs

Punxsy's 4x800-meter relay team and Eric Ingros (running the 800) participated Friday but failed to advance.

Chucks claim D-9 title; set up double-header with softball next Tuesday

The Chucks baseball team claimed the District IX title with a 4-1 win over Bradford on Thursday night in DuBois. Now, the Chucks will play Obama Academy of District VIII next Tuesday at Showers Field in DuBois at 5:30 p.m. That game will follow Punxsy's softball team's game against St. Marys for its respective D-9 title, which will be played in DuBois at 3:30 p.m.

Chucks & Owls to square off for D-9 Title Thursday

On Thursday, the Punxsy Chucks baseball team will square off against the Bradford Owls in a 5:30 p.m. contest at Shower's Field in DuBois for the District IX Championship. The winner of the game will advance to a play-in game for the PIAA State Championship tournament.

Punxsy will now play St. Marys next Tuesday for the District IX Championship.

The Bradford Owls defeated the Clearfield Bison on Tuesday in District IX baseball action, setting up the District IX Championship Game, which will be played on Thursday at Showers Field in DuBois between the Chucks and the Owls.

Lady Chucks to open District IX play Wednesday

On Monday night, the members of the Lady Chucks donned their fanciest attire for the annual softball banquet. On Wednesday, they'll don the red and the white as they play host to Clearfield to open the District IX playoffs in a semi-final bout beginning at 3:30 p.m.

In the process of qualifying for the PIAA State Championships at the District IX Championship Meet on Wednesday, Ethan Riley also broke the school record in the long jump, recording a score of 21-09.25. Eric Ingros and the boys' 4x800-meter relay team also qualified for next week's state championships.
