BANKS TOWNSHIP â A two-vehicle accident involving an Amish buggy and a pick-up truck caused injuries to two Amish boys, one of whom was flown to a hospital in Altoona for treatment of his injuries Friday morning.
According to Punxsutawney-based Pennsylvania State Police, the accident occurred around 8 a.m., when an Amish buggy driven by a 14-year-old Amish boy was traveling south on Johnsonburg Road, Banks Township, when a pick-up truck driven by Charles Pennington, 63, Glen Campbell, also traveling south, came upon the crest of a hill behind the buggy.
PUNXSUTAWNEY â Farmers taking part in Thursdayâs Farmersâ Market downtown have dealt with the hot weather in varying degrees, but agree on one thing: They need rain ... and more than the area received Friday night.
âItâs kind of hard to grow this stuff without rain,â said Royce Sprague, who was selling produce with help from his wife, Charlotte, and grandchildren Nico McDonald, 10, and Tiffany Hand, 14. âWe got a little rain Monday, but it was only about 15 minutes.â
PUNXSUTAWNEY â If you think a global positioning systemâs (GPS) only purpose is to point a motorist to an intended destination, youâd be surprised to learn that many people use the device for a high-tech scavenger hunt called geocaching.
Francis and Jeanne Burkett of Punxsutawney presented a program on geocaching at the Lattimer House for the public and members of the Punxsutawney Historical & Genealogical Society Tuesday.
Geocaching is a real-world, outdoor treasure-hunting game using GPS-enabled devices.
PUNXSUTAWNEY â Leading 6-0 in the bottom of the fifth inning, Punxsy's 13- and 14-year old VFW All-Stars had to be thinking, "Rain, rain go away," as they saw the storm clouds rolling in, but the game was delayed in the fifth inning due to lightning, and after an hour delay, Philipsburg came back and defeated Punxsy 10-8 in the finale of the round-robin Area 6 tournament.
Punxsy's ace, Brycen Paulinellie, was pitching a gem through five innings, allowing no runs on two hits and striking out seven. But after the delay, Punxsy decided better safe than sorry and brought in a new pitcher.

Well, local Pittsburgh Steelers trivia expert Mike Stello and several of his competitors know, and can recall the information in a lightning-quick manner.
Stello has competed in the McDonald's Steelers Trivia Challenge four different times, with his three-person teams having been selected from hundreds of participants each year.
EDINBORO â Punxsy's 10- and 11-year old Little League Softball All-Stars opened its Section 1 tournament Thursday with a 6-5 loss in eight innings at the hands of Harborcreek in Edinboro.
Punxsy automatically won the District 10 bid, because there were no other 10- and 11-year old All-Star teams in the district.
The two teams combined for seven of the 11 total runs in the eighth inning alone.
Punxsy scored three runs in the top half of the eighth inning, but was unable to control the Harborcreek bats, allowing them to score four in the bottom half of the frame to win.
